A range of prescribing frameworks employed by different branches of herbal medicine are introduced and the distinctions between them explored. Factors to be considered in formulating herbal combinations are discussed and the finer distinctions between applications of herbs with similar actions are identified. This unit covers prescribing for acute and chronic conditions and for different life stages. The emphasis is on clinical case studies and construction of appropriate formulae in preparation for Clinic Practicum in fourth year.
